We haven’t finished Summer Bay for 2024 yet, but Home and Away is ended for another year.

We’ve been busy thinking back on the cast exits that happened this year as the beachfront soap opera is currently on its yearly break in both the UK and Australia.

The year saw fewer program regulars leave, with guest stars frequently filling in to offer some of the more dramatic goodbyes.

Nevertheless, here is a reminder of this year’s biggest exits and the reasons behind each cast member’s decision.

Home and Away is over for another year, but Summer Bay for 2024 is still unfinished.

As the seaside soap opera is presently on its annual break in both the UK and Australia, we’ve been busy reflecting on the cast exits that have place this year.

As fewer show regulars left this year, guest stars often stepped in to deliver some of the more devastating farewells.

Here is a recap of this year’s most notable departures, along with the rationales for each cast member’s choice.

Since Courtney’s appearance in Home and Away had always been touted as a brief guest engagement, Valerie’s brief stay in the Bay was not particularly surprising.

This year, Catherine Văn-Davies also made a brief appearance as movie actress Stevie Marlow on Home and Away.

Stevie hired Cash as her bodyguard after he left the police force and entered the private security industry because she was terrified of a deadly stalker.

The stalker was eventually freed from prison and killed Stevie by shooting her down on the beach, so this Summer Bay story definitely didn’t end well.

Show executives apparently always had the plot twist in mind as part of a terrible year of storylines they had planned for poor old Cash, as Stevie was never a regular on the show.

Home and Away enthusiastically announced the return of the River Boys with a new captain, Rory Templeton, this year, and Titans actor Joshua Orpin joined with considerable acclaim.

Although Rory was well-liked by his supporters, his time in the Bay was brief since he was eventually taken into custody for the murder of Franklin McGrath, a police officer in Mangrove River.

To preserve the plot twist, show executives had apparently kept quiet about Rory’s brief tenure.

Later, Joshua said on Instagram: “We bid Rory farewell tonight as he leaves Summer Bay for better opportunities… And I mean the stifling concrete fields of a small prison cell when I say “greener pastures.”

“If I claimed he didn’t fully deserve it, I would be lying! Nevertheless, I hope the previous several weeks have been enjoyable for you with him around.”

One of the two regular cast members that said adieu to Home and Away in 2024 was Jacqui Purvis.

In devastating sequences, her character Felicity Newman takes center stage after suffering a brain aneurysm at her brother Cash’s and best friend Eden’s engagement celebration.

Doctors at the hospital insisted that Felicity’s life support devices be switched off because there was nothing else they could do to help her after she had a second aneurysm.

“I have had an amazing time on the show,” Jacqui later said to Yahoo Australia. Some of my greatest years ever.

“However, I knew I wanted an international career, so I had to make the decision to leave and take the plunge.”

Although she hasn’t left the serial opera, Home and Away star Lynne McGranger took a lengthy vacation this year to travel with the theater production of The Grandparents Club.

After being duped by soap villain Bronte, Lynne’s character Irene Roberts relapsed with her alcoholism, leading to her being written out for a period of treatment.

Fortunately, Lynne resumed filming in September 2024, and we can expect to see her again next year.

“I’ve thought about it, and it has been in the back of my mind for the last year or two,” Lynne said in May when discussing her long-term future on Home and Away.

“Certainly no date has been set [to leave], but what I love about working on The Grandparents Club and being involved in this wonderful celebration is that it’s taking me back to my roots.”

This year, Matthew Holmes, who starred in Sea Patrol, made a brief appearance on Home and Away as Perri Hayes’ violent father, Carl.

Before being abruptly eliminated during a tense confrontation with his son in the Paratas’ backyard pool, the antagonist made just six appearances.

Carl had the honor of taking center stage in the UK end-of-year cliffhanger, which was specifically scripted to provide Channel 5 viewers a dramatic way to conclude the year, even though his tenure was brief.

Prior to Home and Away’s Channel 5 break, Perri Hayes was the center of attention on UK television, but he has already lost his place on Australian television.

Australian fans watched Perri leave Summer Bay a few weeks ago after his relationship with coach Tane Parata came to an end.

The role of Perri, performed by Cantona Stewart, has always been advertised as a temporary cast member who would return after a few months.

“You can only dream of having the chance to work on what most would say is the pinnacle and pillar of TV,” Cantona subsequently stated in an interview with Now To Love.

It was numbing to get the call that you were moving to Sydney to work on Home and Away. I will cherish the entire experience for the rest of my professional life.

Luke Van Os, who starred in Home and Away, was the second regular cast member to leave in 2024. He hasn’t left the UK yet, although his farewell sequences were shown in Australia earlier this month.

Luke’s personality As part of his business management education, Xander Delaney left the Bay to begin a six-week work experience in Melbourne.

Luke hasn’t been spotted filming for the show for several months, so even though Xander assured his girlfriend Dana Matheson that he would return, things don’t seem to be going well.

Luke played the role for over three years, which is a very typical tenure for Home and Away regulars in the younger cast, but there is currently no official confirmation of why he left due to the lack of an exit interview.
