Why Brennan’s Name Changed to Jack on GENERAL HOSPITAL

Don’t worry if you thought Valentin called Brennan “Jack” on GENERAL HOSPITAL; you didn’t hear him incorrectly. The character’s real name was John Brennan when he was initially introduced to the soap opera. But it seems like things had to alter when John “Jagger” Cates returned to the canvas, and Brennan, the more recent character, was given a new name so that no one would confuse him with another John in Port Charles. (We realize that Jagger’s use of his teenage moniker isn’t quite professional for an FBI agent, but all of this could have been avoided!)

Fans were confused about the changeover and shared their confusion on Twitter and X. One fan wondered how the two selected who got to keep the name John and assumed that since Brennan was now going by “Jack,” Adam J. Harrington (John) had the upper hand. Harrington chuckled, “We left that to minds bigger than ours, and Jack is a killer name. Perhaps they engaged in arm wrestling.

Charles Mesure, who played Brennan, then added a hilarious explanation of his own. He commented, “I told ABC I’ll do GH as long as my name is John.” John Wayne, John F. Kennedy, and so on, you know. Then this other man, Adam J. Harrington, who is probably more attractive than I am, shows up. I’m Jack now. That’s awesome. I work well in a group. You guys are fortunate; I like the name Jack. Just be cautious.

It’s encouraging to know that the actors get along well and find comedy in everything, even though John is determined to destroy the Pikeman organization and makes Mesure—and now, it turns out, Valentin—his deadliest enemy. Hey, a new name is hardly anything to get worked up about in soap operas when people’s faces and entire pasts can change at any moment!
