If you’re a die-hard fan of soap opera spoilers, you’ve undoubtedly already heard that Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) on EastEnders has a tragic backstory that will ultimately cause her to leave the show in the upcoming months.

Next week marks the beginning of that plot, which promises some challenging and distressing moments.

With Lola helping daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown) get ready for her upcoming pageant, the week gets off to a beautiful start.

But the problems begin right immediately as the dress tears and portion of the mesh separates. That is not how Lexi can compete in the pageant!

They need a solution, and they need it quickly, because time is running out and the event won’t be starting for another few hours.

Mel Baker (Matthew James Morrison) appears. He is capable of fixing the dress, if anyone is! It takes no time at all, everything is resolved, and they can proceed.

Soon after, Lola runs across Tony Clay’s character Callum, to whom she extends an invitation to see little Lexi play.

After the recent discomfort with his ex-husband and Lexi’s father Ben (Max Bowden), it seems sense that Callum isn’t too eager to spend more time with them; yet, he finally buckles in to Lola’s persuasion.

However, the recent awkward encounter with Ben will soon be a distant memory, as Ben has something important to tell Callum. He’s about to open up to him when they’re interrupted by Jay (Jamie Borthwick) and the opportunity is lost.

However, Ben can’t keep the news under wraps forever.

While this is going on, Lola is in the bathroom just before Lexi’s big event is about to begin. Suddenly, she doubles over in pain and collapses to the floor, suffering a seizure.

Thankfully, she’s soon discovered by Jay and Ben, who call her an ambulance – this is clearly something to worry about.

They head to the hospital, and it’s here that Ben finally gets a chance to tell Callum the news – but what is it?

Lola is taken for a CT scan and it’s a nervous time as they wait to find out what it shows.

Jay and Lola have recently rekindled their romance, and Jay is in the room with her as the doctor returns. Sadly, the loved-up pair are hit with a revelation they never would have expected.

Lola’s seizure was caused by a brain tumour, and there’s a chance that it’s cancerous.

It’s quite shocking and indicates that Lola faces a difficult battle ahead of her.

Even though the whole picture won’t be revealed until next week, we already have a better idea of what lies ahead for Lola in the upcoming months. It is already commonly accepted that Lola has a malignant brain tumour and that she will pass away within the next few months as a result of her diagnosis.

The creators of EastEnders are collaborating closely on the intense plot with Brain Tumour Research and Macmillan Cancer Support.

“It was vital for us to work alongside [the two charities] to take on, and accurately present, such a profound and emotional storyline for Lola, one that many viewers may relate to,” said show executive producer Chris Clenshaw, discussing the effort that went into making the plot factual.
