We know that this will not be easy, but will you at least attempt it? It is difficult to comprehend that over 25 years have passed since Camryn Grimes, the freckle-faced newcomer, joined the ensemble of The Young and the Restless. “It was unimaginable to anyone when I was a child that I would be here years later, playing a whole different character,” she says in an interview with Soaps.com. “Show fans might have, but I know I didn’t,”

Fans were drawn to Grimes not just because of her natural cuteness but also because the 6-year-old was exceptionally talented. Grimes was cast as Cassie, the long-lost daughter of Sharon Newman. After a little more than three years, the budding talent—who was ten years old at the time—became the youngest Daytime Emmy winner in history for Outstanding Younger Actress. “I’ve worked at other jobs, but clearly none of them had the same impact as this one,” she claims. “I learned almost everything I know about life from being on Young & Restless.”

The expectation among the public was that they would see her develop on TV in a similar manner to that of, instance, Heather Tom as Victoria or Melody Thomas Scott as Nikki. The audience was completely misinformed. Grimes’s character Cassie was killed off in 2005. Sharon and Nick, the little girl’s stepfather, were as devastated as we were. As gutted as Grimes, heck. It was a very depressing day. “I just want to go home,” I exclaim.

However, the actress’s tenure in Genoa City didn’t end there. I mean, how could it be?

Over the ensuing years, Grimes periodically resurfaced as Cassie’s ghost. Then, in 2014, she made a reappearance on the canvas as Mariah Copeland, a doppelganger of Cassie who happened to be the deceased’s twin. Naturally, Grimes and her new role are now as essential to The Young and the Restless as narrative turns and twists.
