A new obstacle in Alfie Moon’s (Shane Richie) cancer battle has been revealed on EastEnders after his passionate reunion with his true love, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).

After kissing earlier in the week amidst issues with their oldest son Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall), the couple has now been seen to be romantically reunited in the BBC One soap opera.

Kat and Alfie were shown laying in bed together as the Thursday episode began, enjoying their reconciliation. However, he was eager to consult a doctor before sharing their good news with their boys.

After his fight with prostate cancer, Kat became concerned that Alfie’s illness had returned, but Alfie expressed his insecurities about the therapy affecting his virility.

Kat rejected his worries about how excellent a lover he was and disputed that it was a problem. But Alfie still had a disturbed expression.

To his best friend Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt, left), Alfie Moon (Shane Richie, right) opened out.

Alfie later confided in his closest friend Ian Beale (played by Adam Woodyatt) at Kathy’s Cafe about his erectile difficulties after undergoing radical prostatectomy and radiation treatment. He expressed concern that he wouldn’t be able to perform for Kat, who has always had a strong sexual inclination.

Ian advised Alfie to be honest with Kat and to consult a physician.

In the meanwhile, Kat was the subject of rumors in the Queen Victoria pub when she was asked about her reunion with Alfie by her friend Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) and landlady Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe).

Kat kept things secret, but Ian and Alfie came in at the wrong time, and Ian got into a heated argument with Kat because he felt Kat was making fun of Alfie’s erectile problems with the women.

Mo Harris (Laila Morse) gave Alfie some guidance.

Kat’s nan, Big Mo Harris (Laila Morse), heard about the scenes at the Vic and offered her support, pointing out that it was a common health issue. She even had some experience with it herself in her romance with Stevie Mitchell (Alan Ford), as he suffered from it. Alfie left, upset, and sat at the war memorial.

By giving Alfie a box of items that benefited her and Stevie, Mo showed him how much she loved and cared for him, as well as how much the family does.

Alfie talked to Kat at home, who assured him that she wouldn’t make fun of him in that way and thanked him for supporting her and their children recently. Kat acknowledged that neither of them is the same person they were before and that they have both grown and changed.

Not “the tart with a heart” anymore, Kat vowed never to harm Alfie again, and they both acknowledged that while sex is essential to them, it is not everything.

At last, Kat and Alfie are back on track.

When Kat declared her love for Alfie, he reciprocated. Both Kat and Alfie giggled in astonishment as they opened the package Mo had given him and advised Alfie to run the contents under a tap first.

It appears like the two are at last getting back on track!

At the National Television Awards, actor Shane Richie discussed the plotline with The Sun, saying: “We’re going to cover the erectile dysfunction story, which I didn’t think we would do, but that ties in with prostate cancer.”

“I mean, you know, you do your homework, and the Beeb [BBC] and certainly the producers are very good at doing their research.”
