Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey on the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, has reassured fans about her character as her serial killer son Stephen intensifies his killing spree.

Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey Roberts on Coronation Street, has reassured fans about her character as her on-screen serial killer son’s story nears its conclusion.

The 79-year-old soap opera star has had to reassure her fans who worry that Audrey might meet a grisly end due to her son Stephen Reid’s murderous tendencies.

The venerable actor said, “Some people are still telling me he is up to no good and Audrey should see him for what he is.

“When I visit Sainsbury’s, the people I know the best advise me to exercise caution, and I reassure them that I am.”

“I think they will be very worried this week, I have been telling them to keep watching as his behaviour is going to get very worrying.”

The mother of three claimed that Todd Boyce, who plays her on-screen son, has begun shopping in the same supermarket as her and that the staff has informed her that “Your son has been in.”

When asked if Audrey has any reservations about Stephen, Sue replied, “No, she hasn’t had any reservations about him at all. That’s what makes hearing all these things that he is alleged to have done so difficult for her.

She is so consumed with admiration for him. She has braggingly mentioned him to everyone because she has become enamored with the fact that he has led such a glamorous life.

“How can she possibly believe what people are saying about him?” she said.

Viewers will see Audrey confront Stephen on Wednesday’s episode, but instead, she interrupts a confrontation between Stephen and Peter (played by Chris Gascoyne).

“She arrives at the front to confront him about the house money and discovers Stephen and Peter arguing and Peter has clearly attacked Stephen,” she told ITV.

“Despite her own anger toward Stephen, she does not understand why Peter is attacking him.

“If she hadn’t got there I am sure Peter would have killed him.”

On Monday night’s episode, Stephen brutally attacked Tim Metcalfe (played by Joe Duttine) and left him for dead, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
