There will be emotional goodbyes in the ITV soap next week

Next week, there will be a tearful farewell in Weatherfield as Summer Spellman leaves. For a little while now, the adolescent, portrayed by Harriet Bibby, has been organizing her escape from Coronation Street’s cobblestones.

Summer, who joined the ITV serial in 2017 as the daughter of a guy named Charlie, informed her guardian Billy Mayhew last month (February) that she had received an opportunity to study in the United States.

After dealing with an eating disorder that resulted in a diabetes diagnosis, a teenage pregnancy and subsequent kidnapping when she agreed to be a surrogate for churchgoers Mike and Esther Hargrave, and a breakup with her boyfriend Aaron Sandford, who later sexually assaulted her best friend Amy Barlow, Summer received the offer.

But Summer later admitted to Billy that, given his husband Paul Foreman’s diagnosis of motor neurone disease, she didn’t think it was the proper moment. Billy, however, agreed when Summer later proposed requesting for the placement to be delayed by a year.

However, Paul encouraged Summer to leave Weatherfield after hearing of her once-in-a-lifetime vacation, saying he didn’t want his illness to stop her. It seems that the arrangements have been implemented, and in the next scenes, she will depart from the well-known cobblestones.

New spoilers state that Summer plans her trip to Boston, and Billy agrees to celebrate by preparing a roast dinner, all while Bernie Winter drives Paul to his speech therapy appointment.

Paul’s speech and ability to eat solid food have declined, the therapist verifies, and she recommends that it may be time to utilize a feeding tube. When Paul and Bernie go home, they inform him that he has to give up solid meals because he is afraid he would choke. Billy and Summer are reassured by Paul that if they puree his food, he would recover well.

Billy, Summer, Bernie, and Todd begin eating their roast supper while Paul works on his bowl of puréed food. As Todd, Billy, Summer, and Bernie empty the dishes, Paul finds it difficult to contain his tears. Billy feels that there is still room for improvement when Paul plays back some of his pre-recorded messages on his laptop later in the week in the flower shop apartment.

On the street, Billy, Paul, and Todd said a tearful goodbye to Summer as she left for Boston, while Paul’s sister Gemma and her husband Chesney Brown left with Joseph for the Oakhill entrance exam.

Actress Harriet, who debuted on Corrie in 2020 after Matilda Freeman, the original actress who portrayed her, chose to leave, will be leaving the show.

Harriet celebrated having appeared in over 300 episodes of the serial opera earlier this year. “It’s really strange to think about it as it doesn’t feel like I’ve been there that long, but I also feel very settled in and comfortable there,” she stated to The Lincolnite. I’ve established a habit and a groove, so it’s been good to be there for so long.

“I had no idea that number (over 300) ever existed. Being on the show is an enormous privilege. My friends and family are still incredibly proud of me, and even when I meet new people and they ask what I do, their response is always, “Oh wow, that’s amazing,” because the show is so incredible. People will have seen parts of it even if they don’t watch it every day. Saying that I’m on it feels strange, but it’s good that I’ve done so many episodes.”

However, she also stated to the newspaper at the time, “I haven’t done any other acting roles; I am totally committed to Corrie.” Although I don’t currently have any firm plans to leave the show, I’m continually thinking about how much I would want to work in theater. I teach singing, so I use it to further my passion for theater.”
