Coronation Street actor Alex Bain has played Simon Barlow for 15 years

After 15 years as Simon Barlow on Coronation Street, actor Alex Bain has announced he is leaving the ITV soap opera. The 22-year-old actor posted a photo of himself on social media that appeared to be from his dressing room. Alex posted on Instagram, saying, “Well, my day is over! Today was a pleasant, brief day! I will really miss this small area when I leave!

I’m so happy I still have a few shooting days left! I’m very grateful. There are rumors that Alex will make a dramatic leave in scenes that will premiere in the summer.

At the age of seven, Alex Bain made his way onto the cobblestones, playing the son of Peter Barlow (played by Chris Gascoyne). After Simon’s mother Lucy passed away from breast cancer, Peter brought Simon back to Weatherfield. Lucy wished for her son to be with his father in her final moments. Simon went in with his legal mother Leanna Battersby (Jane Danson) after his father fled the cobbles.

The actor took home the Best Young Actor British Soap Award in 2011. In the fifteen years that he has starred in the soap opera, he has had a number of contentious storylines.
