Some new information about Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington), a vibrant newcomer, has been made public by EastEnders.
This week, the fiery new Mitchell matriarch was introduced on the BBC One soap opera when she appeared in Walford to free her oldest son, Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway), from jail.
We discovered in Tuesday’s episode that she had been serving time in jail for assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH) after operating a corrupt cosmetics company, lying to her youngest son Barney Mitchell (played by Lewis Bridgeman), and that she had not been living overseas in recent years.
Even when her kids Harry and Barney pushed her away and her ex-husband Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) firmly rejected her, Nicola was adamant about staying for her sons and proving herself to them.
Nicola appeared at The Arches on Wednesday in an attempt to get Harry to assist her with the family, claiming that she had helped him avoid difficulty with the police about the disappearance of his fiancée Shireen. Harry consented.
The two soon shown their grit to one another after Nicola disrupted a meeting between Teddy and cousin Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) over the sale of Peggy’s, which Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) was present for.
Nicola made a joke, “I knew a Sharon once, she ran an escort agency out of a tanning shop.” Sharon responded that she had known quite a few Nicolas because it was a “common” name.
Nicola was obviously interested when Sharon disclosed that Teddy was going to purchase Peggy’s from Phil. However, after observing Nicola, Sharon’s half-brother Zack Hudson (played by James Farrar) interrupted the conversation and began acting shady.
Phil changed his mind about the transaction and withdrew from signing anything during the meeting as Nicola blasted Teddy for concealing financial assets throughout their divorce. Following the men’s departure, Sharon made fun of Nicola by pointing out the picture of the late Peggy Mitchell (Dame Barbara Windsor) and referring to her as the best Mitchell matriarch ever.
After Teddy and Nicola had a run-in, she vowed to take him to court for concealing assets throughout the divorce process.
Zack was spotted approaching Sharon in the Square as the day went on and Teddy expressed to her that he was happy to be free of Nicola.
Zack expressed his surprise at seeing her again, and they talked about how they had slept together years earlier when he was her personal trainer and she was married to Teddy.
“My core ain’t been the same since you had a go at it,” said Nicola with affection.

Zack said it wouldn’t be the first time that Nicola wanted him to keep their past together a secret from Teddy and her sons.
Nicola was observed looking at Teddy and Sharon’s conversation with more than a hint of envy after Zack left.
Given that her father is a police officer, Nicola saw Harry again at The Arches at the conclusion of the episode and asked him why he had become connected with Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine), while also sharing her experiences in prison.
Nicola advises taking down and terminating Jack Branning’s (Scott Maslen) career with the film of him attacking Harry when Harry confesses his scheme with Penny to blackmail Jack. She also agrees to accompany him to the police station.
