Annette Badland, star of EastEnders, has disclosed that she had to contact the police when viewers made “disturbing” murder threats against her, making it difficult for her to distance herself from her role.
Annette Badland, who portrayed the evil Aunt Babe in EastEnders, has disclosed that she was forced to “live in hiding” after being threatened with murder.
The 74 year old actress portrayed Mick Carter’s (Danny Dyer) wicked aunt, a character known for her heinous crimes including baby farming, blackmail and leaving her sister Sylvie (Linda Marlowe) for dead.
While Annette enjoyed portraying Aunt Babe on the soap opera, she acknowledged that some viewers went too far in their animosity toward her by sending her “disturbing” death threats. She revealed in an exclusive interview with Reach PLC: “It’s always good to place villains, it’s intriguing though it has its consequences in a soap because I did get death threats at the end.”

The fact that she was only acting and that others were unable to tell the difference between her role and herself bothered her. “It’s very disturbing that people can’t divide between your character and yourself, they don’t know you’re acting.”
After a month or so, the threats finally stopped, but not before the police and BBC security became involved. They cautioned her against going out too much or disclosing her location.
“It was a bit scary to begin with, they could trace some of it but it was public computers so they couldn’t get anywhere specific, but it subsided,” according to the Express.
Annette eventually saw the comments as “a compliment” on her effective depiction of the role, despite her initial apprehension. She said her departure from EastEnders in 2017 was sudden because a new producer had canceled a one-year plot for her.

If all goes according to plan, Annette hasn’t ruled out a comeback.
“I’d go for a storyline or something, I don’t know [if] I’d commit for an indefinite period, but you know, you never know,” she said, sharing her opinions. Depending on what they think about.
She jokingly alluded to the past by saying, “My boy is dead now, Danny,” before slyly adding, laughing, “Or is he?!”
‘Portraits of Dangerous Women’ is a new comedy-drama that Annette’s admirers may anticipate watching. Following a weird road accident, the film explores the intertwined lives of three strangers.

Instead of calling the police, these people choose to deal with the fallout collectively. As their secret histories come to light, this odd three develops a special link and discovers a long-standing kinship.
“It isn’t normal, it doesn’t follow an ordinary track,” Annette responded when asked why she was drawn to this project. Additionally, I loved that it was about women, and I’m in favor of that.
“There is a great deal of humor in it and good story-telling and good character relationships,” she added, emphasizing the attraction.
“I quite like that it’s not so linear how most things are, you know it takes strange little corners, that’s always very interesting I think,” Annette said, praising its unusual plot.
