Home and Away: Another shock death rocks Summer Bay

Less than two months after viewers of Home and Away had the shock of their lives when Felicity Newman passed away suddenly, Summer Bay has been shocked by yet another death—this time from drowning. I get your thought process: in a soap opera situated on a beach, a drowning ought to be a common occurrence, right? Actually, that’s not true. This time, self-defense or (accidental) manslaughter would be the most appropriate ways to characterize the death. See, I’m not a lawyer, so I dunno. I write for a living about Home and Away.

Anyhow.

To keep up with the tale, here’s a refresher: Perri joined Tane’s youth program for disturbed kids when she moved to Summer Bay a few months ago. While it’s difficult to know what became of the other misbehaving teenagers, Tane took Perri under his wing for a while. Perri informed Tane that his goal was to avoid problems because he was about to become eighteen and that prison, not juvie, would be his fate if he messed up once more.

Here comes Perri’s troublemaking criminal father Carl, who not only abuses his son physically and mentally but also forces him to commit crimes on his behalf.

In the present, Perri has a restraining order against his father, but Criminal Carl was never going to follow it. Thus, when Perri gets home in last night’s episode of Home and Away, his dad is waiting for him and his AVO is glued to a cutting board with a knife.

Chaos erupts when Perri declines to assist his dad in obtaining funding for a “fresh” start.

There are some nasty sequences that I wasn’t quite ready for, such when Carl drags Perri out to the pool and tries to drown him. This program used to be FAMILY FRIENDLY. Speaking Pig Latin, they would wash up on the beach, become teenage mothers to cult leaders, and then immigrate to America in search of a fresh start. It’s all crime and murder now, just like at Mount Thomas! (I hope so.)

When Tane gets home later that evening—after not hearing from Perri—he discovers a body floating in his pool. Just so you know, Tane can’t really afford to be in any more trouble right now because he kidnapped a baby earlier this year.

When Tane arrived, he discovered Perri hunched over the wall and whispering, “I didn’t mean to kill him.” Final scene. Close the show.

On the bright side, Tane is undoubtedly the one who will show Perri how to avoid going to jail.

It’s not exactly a sad thing to watch Carl depart, as many had previously conjectured that they believed Perri would be the one to die at the hands of his father.

In a Facebook fan group, someone said, “What father does that to their child?” Another person said, “He’s a monster!”

“That was a terrifying conclusion. Really, Perri, good job. Another person remarked, “He did what he had to do to stay alive, poor kid.”
