Coronation Street’s Les Battersby star Bruce Jones has claimed the soap is no longer “worth watching” due to the change of writers who don’t understand “Manchester life”

Superfans and former cast members of Coronation Street have criticized the show for drifting off course.

Playing layabout Les Battersby, Bruce Jones, 71, inset, has criticized the writers for writing too many murders and losing the element of fun. “I watched it from the beginning, but my wife says it’s not worth watching anymore,” he stated.

“That number of killings cannot occur on a single street. The actors are not at blame. All of them are performing admirably; the writers are the ones who have evolved.

“I believe that aspect of Manchester life has been lost on us. Our writers were urban dwellers in Manchester.

Bruce believes a shift in the show’s focus is necessary to make it once more a must-watch. “Return it to what Coronation Street was… a community,” he continued. There was humor, and then there was tragedy.

The 67-year-old actress Beverley Callard, who portrayed Liz McDonald for many years, recently criticized the writers for their socially conscious compositions. “I think a lot of television these days is issue-led, and I detest that,” the woman remarked.

Corrie executives are bringing on a new producer to breathe new life into the program. Later this month, Kate Brooks, who has led Emmerdale and Hollyoaks with success, will take over.
