Amelia Heinle knew she would have difficult competition if she was chosen for The Young and the Restless because the previous Victoria Newman, who played Heather Tom (now Katie on Bold & Beautiful), had won two Emmys for her portrayal of Victor and Nikki’s obstinate daughter.
“In 2020, Soap Opera Digest was told by the veteran of Loving, The City, and All My Children, “there’s no way I could have played the part the way she did it.” They were looking for a powerful character, and in the end, I discovered my own power. Even though it didn’t appear like [Heather’s], it belonged to me.
And how well received it was by the crowd. Heinle never left Victoria’s side once she was escorted to the front burner. Rather, she found herself moved between intense scenes, such as the boardroom and the bedroom, and back again. Heinle’s charisma in the part is so evident that Victoria’s relationship with Billy Abbott flourished even after he was replaced.
It follows that the actress has a strong bond with her Genoa City persona, much like Eric Braeden does with his mustache. She remarked to Digest, “For me, this is almost like a legacy.” “Someone will say, ‘Oh yeah, she was on Young & Restless,’ if they ever Google me.”
