Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has become a firm-favourite playing undertaker George Shuttleworth and now the actor has issued some big news about his future on the soap

Favorite Tony Maudsley from Coronation Street has revealed some exciting news regarding his future on the ITV soap opera.

In 2020, the 56-year-old actor made his cobbles debut as George Shuttleworth. George has grown to be a devoted fan among the audience because he is the late son of Archie Shuttleworth.

Fans have observed him developing romantic feelings for former soap opera star Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) since his arrival. Jodie Prenger’s Glenda, the sister of actor Undertaker George, moved to the well-known street in 2022.

And when actor Tony makes his declaration, supporters who were wanting to see George stay on the cobbles will be ecstatic. He made an announcement on Friday, March 15, via his X, formerly known as Twitter.

Tony wrote: “Hooray! I’m thrilled to be remaining on at @itvcorrie until at least July 2025, together with George. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” goes the saying.

After hearing George’s news, fans couldn’t contain their joy. One guy commented in the reply section: “Excellent news. Tony, you are loved by everyone. Another person said, “Congratulations. George X would make Corrie a very different show.

A third exclaimed, “Yeah! Please, more stories for George and Eileen. “Excellent news, Corrie wouldn’t be the same without you,” wrote a different follower.

It happens after Tony’s brief spell on Britain’s Got Talent, where he appeared completely different from the Cobbles. With this incredible old photo, the celebrity had followers gaping at their lips.

Tony and his former Benidorm co-stars are seen in the photo sharing the stage and trying to win over head judge Simon Cowell. The photo from 12 years ago, which was taken during Britain’s Got Talent’s Sport Relief comedy in 2012, showed Tony looking nothing like his alter ego George.

The soap star had bleach-blonde hair and an amazing bronze tan. As his fans tried to accept that the BGT stint had been on television for more than ten years, they were overcome with a serious case of nostalgia. Someone pleaded, “Please, do another tour!”
