EXCLUSIVE: Stephen Reid attacked Sarah Barlow of Coronation Street after he made an attempt to leave Weatherfield, but the Platt family is left with more questions than answers following his passing.
The suffering Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) left behind after his death must now be endured by Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and her family on Coronation Street.
Sarah has always been her uncle’s biggest advocate and moved to Milan with him in her desire to be like him and adopt his business philosophy.
Unaware that he had done much worse during his year back in Weatherfield, she confronted Stephen after discovering he had been stealing from Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).
Stephen hit Sarah in the back of the head and held Jenny Connor (Sally-Ann Matthews) hostage with a broken bottle as they found themselves in the center of his rage.
With Sarah and Audrey both in denial, the citizens of Weatherfield and the Platt family must now deal with the consequences of Stephen’s crimes.
Tina O’Brien said, when asked how Sarah was feeling following the revelations, “I think she is in denial.
“I believe David is the one who is really kind of saying, “Hang on a minute. She wants to believe her uncle, who she traveled to Milan with and who helped her advance professionally.
“And that isn’t who he is, so I think when she begins to realize that is the case, it comes as a huge shock.
“I don’t believe for a minute that he would harm any of the Platts; they are family, and neither she nor anyone else would be in danger.
“If she had thought he was dangerous, I don’t think she would have tried to speak with him; I think she still thinks of him as her uncle at the end of the day.
“And that it’s possible there have been misunderstandings or that individuals—she is aware of Rufus—might have made a mistake.
“They don’t know so I think she believes that they as a family could get through to him.”
While the family is burdened by Stephen’s crimes, Sarah is also concerned about the future of her position at Underworld after Stephen stole £250,000.
Will the Platt family be able to unite during this difficult time? How will Sarah manage the fact that her life has once again been torn apart?
